Breakfast sandwiches really butter my eggroll

I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t love sandwiches. Specifically, I don’t love breakfast sandwiches. I enjoy them, sure, but not like how I love playing rec-league basketball on Monday nights, or how my partner loves listening to Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album on repeated repeat, or even like how I love loving things, because I truly love a lot of things.

My diet consists primarily of rice and a wide assortment of protein, something that I attribute primarily to my proud oriental ethnicity – shoutout to the Philippines, baby! Bread does not rank highly among foods I consume constantly.

But I know a good sandwich when I see one, especially when it’s been toasted to delicious, heavenly perfection.

Chubby Boy Breakfast & Bar is everything I like in a brunch spot. Its ‘hole-in-a-wall’ design is endearing, befitting an Inglewood community that’s known for its art and local cafes. The menu is simple, the staff are friendly, and most importantly, I can sit and watch the cutest dogs of all shapes and sizes being walked by their humans while I enjoy a delicious breakfast in the sun.

‘What kind of delicious breakfast were you eating in the sun?’ I hear you ask through the screen you’re reading this from. Four words and one ampersand, my dear friends.

Chipotle Hashbrown & Egg Sando.

A culinary marvel consisting of crispy golden hashbrowns, delightfully fluffy scrambled eggs, zesty chipotle mayo, and enough cheese to strike fear into the hearts of lactose intolerant fools like myself. All snuggled comfortably between two slices of splendidly buttered, toasted bread.

The initial crunch of the toast gave way to the crispiness of the hashbrown, which then further sank into the softness of the scrambled eggs. The flavoursome chipotle danced on my tongue, and I couldn’t help but dance back (editor’s note: I don’t know what the f*ck this means, Marcuz). The melting cheese was the linchpin that held it all together, joining all the ingredients in perfect matrimony.

Put simply, that sandwich was splendid.

I wasn’t expecting to eat something so magical on a random Saturday brunch date, let alone a sandwich, and actually enjoy it.

The morning itself was perfect. A gentle breeze drifted while the air filled with the sounds of a typical Perth suburb. Locals walking with varying levels of haste, cars and bicycles leisurely moving at a polite forty kilometers an hour, and magpies cawing in anticipation of a patented pedestrian swooping.

But it was made all the better thanks to a f*cking breakfast sandwich. I’m a sucker for savoury breakfasts. Chubby Boy sucker punched my taste buds into salivating bliss, and I thanked him for it.

In both taste and texture, Chubby Boy’s Chipotle Hashbrown & Egg Sando is so freaking good. If you’re looking for a breakfast/brunch spot with great vibes and great food, then you’ve found the right place.

Located at 3/861 Beaufort St, Inglewood, Chubby Boy Breakfast and Bar is open from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 7am to 5pm on weekends.
